Subscription science boxes are an exciting way to bring fun and innovation right to your kids' fingertips. Subscriptions include monthly boxes that are delivered to your doorstep for one, three, six, or twelve months depending on the package you choose. Every box includes kid-friendly activities for children as young as three and up to sixteen to enjoy independently or as a family. Boxes can be themed like space, engineering,  or dinosaurs. It’s also possible to explore one of the STEAM topics (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). The possibilities are endless. You can customize options for your boxes to tailor them to your kids' interests or age group. Each science box bundles together fun and engaging activities with science concepts, lessons, and experiments so children can learn with hands-on experience and practice critical thinking and problem-solving skills. If you are experiencing a challenge with getting your children interested in science concepts, science boxes are a perfect solution to help turn them into little scientists while they have fun doing it.

1 - Kiwi Co

KiwiCo offers a large variety of age-appropriate science boxes known as “crates.” For toddlers 3-4, the Koala crate offers lessons and projects to learn about animals, rainbows, and even physics concepts. Kids can create their own light-up puppets or stained glass rainbow. For five to eight year olds, KiwiCo ramps up the challenge and critical thinking. The engineering and physics projects are hands on, so kids can start to tackle big scientific concepts like gravity and space. For ages 9 to 14, the Tinker Box will spark innovation with interactive projects that include a “Tinker Zine” with additional activities and experiments that extend learning and video tutorials. If they get stuck, extension videos are offered online. KiwiCo offers monthly, 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month subscriptions at about $20 a month.

2 - MEL Kids

MEL Kids Science Boxes are designed for 5- to 9-year-olds to explore topics such as pressure, rocket science, force and motion, and engineering. All of the science boxes come with everything you need to complete the experiment in the comfort of your home. MEL Kids boxes cover a wide range of science topics to help extend the knowledge of topics learned in school. A Mel Kids subscription includes 18 projects sent monthly, ranging from projector mechanics, hydraulic lifts to electric boats and liquid clocks. These are not divided by your child’s age, so it’s advised to preview the instructions to ensure that your child can complete the project independently, or if it is more complex, that adult help is available. MEL Kids charges monthly for the duration of the 18-month subscription. Each box costs about $35.

3 - Little Passports

Little Passports offers science boxes in addition to geography and social studies themed boxes, separated for children younger than or older than 8. The Science Junior boxes are a perfect fit for little explorers ages 5-8. The box includes trading cards with fun science facts and science-themed stickers to add to the fun of each project. Projects often include a comic, board game, and writing activities to accompany the project. For older kids 8+, the Science Expeditions adds an exciting element where kids solve a new mystery each month, including topics like Forensic science and Aerodynamics. Kids will practice science skills of observation and recording using their very own scientific notebook. Once completed, kids will earn badges for each theme and can unlock bonus online videos. Little Passports offers monthly, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month subscriptions for around $25 a month.
